Governor Rell Orders Flags to Half Staff for Marine
Who Served in Connecticut-based
Unit
Governor M. Jodi
Rell today ordered
U.S. and state flags to be lowered to half staff to honor
the Marine serving in a Connecticut-based reserves unit who
was killed October 1 while conducting combat operations
against enemy forces in Al Anbar province,
Iraq.
Lance Corporal
Christopher B. Cosgrove III, 23, of Cedar Knolls, N.J., was
assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine
Regiment, 4th Marine Division,
Dover,
N.J. and had later been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 25th
Marine Regiment of Plainville,
Connecticut.
“Our thoughts and
prayers are with Lance Corporal Cosgrove’s friends and family
in New
Jersey,” Governor Rell said. “His connection to
Connecticut is strong, and each of us owes him a debt of gratitude
for the ultimate sacrifice he made in defending our
freedom. Lance Corporal Cosgrove is a hero,
and it is fitting that
Connecticut honors his memory by lowering our
flags.”
At the Governor’s
direction, flags will remain at half staff until Lance
Corporal Cosgrove has been interred. Funeral arrangements have
not yet been finalized.
